Start with the print method.
Direct thermal printing uses heat-sensitive media without a separate ink ribbon. Thermal transfer printing transfers material from a ribbon onto a suitable label. A printer’s supported method determines the combination you need; do not substitute a TZe cassette or DK roll for a TD, RJ or TJ supply.
Media width is different from print width.
The roll can be wider than the usable printed area. Send the overall label width, label height and required artwork dimensions, including the barcode quiet zones. Check each model’s specifications rather than choosing by roll width alone.
Confirm the roll and sensor details.
Share the core diameter, maximum outside diameter and winding direction. Die-cut gaps and black marks require the appropriate sensing and calibration. Linerless or specialist media needs explicit confirmation for the exact model and configuration.
Match a ribbon to the surface and environment.
For thermal transfer, confirm ribbon width, length, core and ink side as well as the label material. Wax, wax/resin and resin products serve different requirements. Test readability and adhesion on the intended surface before a large order.
Check the installed options.
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cutters, peelers, rewinders and RFID capabilities depend on the exact model and installed modules. Similar model names and shared housings do not establish that an option is included. Confirm interfaces, printer language and software integration with your application.
